Concrete Mix Design

The concrete mix is crucial to concrete performance and varies greatly according to the needs of the end user. Concrete mix design can range from being a simple or a complex process, depending on the demands of the project.

The mix must provide the required workability in the fresh concrete state and the designed strength and durability in the hardened state.

An example of a concrete mix is:

25 N/mm2 mix (per m3 Cement 340kg
Coarse aggregate  1100kg
Sand 750kg
Water                         180 litres

Specification requirements for structural concrete specify in addition to strength and workability, maximum water / cement ratio and minimum cement content for durability.
